My previous post about Peter Mann made me think of my other favorites by him. The Anjali bed is a beautiful. I selected it for this project because the shape was perfect – contemporary, simple, elegant, and solid.
Also, I really liked how the rich black walnut and shiny steel looked with shades of purple and gray. I mixed the bed with the following: Cowtan & Tout Velvet in Muscat, Holland & Sherry Glace Wool Sateen in Graphite.
The piece of furniture I use most in my home is not any of the usual suspects (a bed or sofa for example). It is actually what I call the “project table.” After years of working at home on nights and weekend and spreading out on my dining room table, I finally decided to face the music, and work my workaholic lifestyle into the design of my place. Solution: Project Table. Get a big table that handles all: work, informal eating, personal organization projects… and get a beautiful one, as it is the one of the largest pieces in my open living/dining room.
I chose the Peter Mann DT table. I have bought a couple pieces from Peter in the past for clients, and was so impressed by their craftsmanship and their indelible hand-crafted beauty, that I knew I wanted one of my own. I love this table’s sophisticated but industrial design, and I love that it’s unique. Each piece is signed (underneath) and numbered, one in a limited series.
I had a few minutes to catch up with Decorati charter member manufacturer and multi-line showroom owner Allan Knight. Allan updated me on the rapid growth of his business with the addition of a few lines and other big initiatives, including a new web site. We chatted about how one of the downfalls of being cutting edge is that by the time everyone else catches up, your ideas can become tired. Case in point – his team is about to redo his web site – their third site redesign over the years! Many furniture companies are still just building their first.
Here is one of my favorite Allan Knight products – perfect for rooms that need a cocktail table but you don’t want to block the view to the rug, or you the room is too small for a heavy wood piece. The lucite can add a bit of unexpected glitz.

FYI – the Allan Knight Showroom in Dallas is not in the main interior design center on Stemmons, it’s in the International Design Center a short distance away. The showroom is large and worth the trip.
I popped into the Baker showroom in Dallas to say hello to the folks who have been answering our Decorati quote requests from Texas designers. I instantly noticed the selection of sample sale items and reminded them that they can easily log in to their Decorati showroom account and post the items for sale. (more…)
While in Dallas, I particularly enjoyed meeting the friendly staff at Walter Lee Culp Showroom. This showroom has been supportive of Decorati for a long time, even while we were building our online showroom quote request system during late summer/fall 2007 (which linked all our member manufacturers to their showrooms). Designers in Dallas were some of the most active, and Walter Lee Culp showroom staff responded to our users’ inquiries quickly and were a pleasure to work with.
