Nella Vetrina joined Decorati only a few months ago and they have created quite a storm of interest, earning a place on the Decorati homepage for “Most Popular Products” many times over. We are thrilled to have these bright, stop-in-your-tracks pieces that pop off your screen and make a statement in any project. I stopped by to say hello to Steve Brister, President (right), and Jason Campbell, Principal-Interior Designer (left).

Let me assure you, these pieces are just as fun and bright in person as they are in the photos.

It was fun to see textile designer Carolyn Ray (middle). I originally spoke with Carolyn Ray back in 2006 when she first signed up for Decorati. We had discussed how the design industry was in a bit of transition as more people started using the web, and I told her my plan for Decorati was to maintain the level of luxury shopping that suits the products we showcase. I am so pleased that we have been able to do what we said we were going to do, and we are just beginning. Thank you Carolyn for believing in us!

What I love about Carolyn Ray products is their subtle qualities that come from layering colors. Her talents as a painter are obvious in the products she creates. They are elegant and sophisticated, able to complement other fabrics, while still being interesting on their own. Stay tuned for a feature story on Carolyn Ray coming soon. While in NY I had a chance to chat with Decorati lighting partner Otium. The graceful, translucent shapes and colors of these lamps are so appealing that as soon as I had seen them long ago, I filed them away in that “mental file” we designers all have (fortunately, now Decorati offers us the ability to “save favorites” online as well…) for use on a later project. What makes these lamps work is they are distinctive, yet compatible, so you can’t go wrong ordering one or two before the end of a project, even if you are not exactly sure where they will go. Take the Daphne Lamp on the left, I installed that recently in a funky loft in San Francisco, but I also could have used it in a formal living room on Park Avenue. It was a pleasure to meet with Otium owner Thomas Fuchs and I can’t wait to see what he produces next.

It was fun to see the crew at the Tucker Robbins showroom in NYC. The showroom has really filled out and expanded since we held the launch party there a few months ago. We chatted about how Gossip Girl chose one of Tucker’s stools (read the story), and ironically the same day Luxist posted the story. (more…)

I had the chance to catch up with this jovial bunch – artist Michael Shemchuk, ceramic lamp artist Lesley Anton, furniture designer, interior designer, etc etc Ted Boerner.

Decorati manufacturer partner Ted Boerner shows me Holland & Sherry fabrics (check back for more on our event with Holland & Sherry today!). The Ted Boerner showroom at the NYDC does not implement the typical clanky fabric leaves you find in many showroomsthat while useful, take the glamor out of fabric shopping. (more…)

It was celebration time at the Taillardat showroom at the NYDC. See Decorati partner Patrick of Pierre Frey with Micheline Taillardat above. I last saw Patrick in Paris, when I visited his son Vicent Frey in the Pierre Frey showroom on Rue du Mail.

Here I am with the legendary Sherri Donghia. Always eager to nurture creativity, Sherri met with me several times a couple years ago to provide feedback on my ideas that lay the groundwork for Decorati. (more…)
